On September 20, 1958 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was stabbed in the chest with a letter opener by a mentally ill black woman named Izola Ware Curry. Who is Izola Ware Curry? What was her fascination with Dr. King? Was she part of a larger plot by the White Citizens Council, a white supremacy group responsible for the death of Medgar Evers in 1963?

While we will recount facts about the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we will spend most of our time heavily indulging in the little known details that occurred at Blumstein’s Department store in Harlem, New York and the events surround the stabbing.

The Izola Ware Curry biopic gives readers a glimpse into the mind of one of America’s lesser known would be assassins. We will explore the life, mental illness allegations and motivations of Izola Ware Curry.
